An 18-year-old female presents with episodes of sudden, involuntary muscle jerks without loss of awareness over the past six months. The episodes last for 10 to 15 seconds and occur approximately 2 to 3 times per week. She has a history of migraines, but no previous seizures or head injuries. Family history is negative for epilepsy or other neurological disorders. The patient is a non-smoker, consumes alcohol occasionally, and denies any illicit drug use. She is currently on oral contraceptive pills and ibuprofen for her migraines.
