A 9-month-old female is brought to the clinic by her mother due to a new rash. The mother reports that the infant had a high fever, recorded as high as 103.5°F (39.7°C), which started 3 days ago. During the febrile period, the infant was irritable and had a slightly decreased appetite but was taking fluids well. She had no cough, runny nose, or vomiting. The fever resolved abruptly this morning. Shortly after the fever broke, the mother noticed a pink rash developing on the child's chest and back. The infant appears well and playful today. Her past medical history is unremarkable, and her immunizations are up to date. She has no known drug allergies.


The infant is well-appearing, alert and active. Temperature is 98.2o F (36.8o C), heart rate is 110 bpm, respirations are 28/min, blood pressure is 90/50 mm/Hg, and O2 saturations is 99% on room air.
